Colette Broadway Shines a Light on the Round Houses of Racine and on Architect Anton Kratochvil

While working in the real estate business, Colette Broadway bought a round house for
investment purposes, designed by Czechoslovakian descendant Anton Kratochvil. She became fascinated by these unusual homes — so much so that she researched these houses thoroughly to create a book highlighting their presence in Racine.

Via slides, Colette will take us through the history of the design and building methods that Kratochvil used to bring these iconic buildings to the Racine landscape.

A former Vaudeville entertainer, Kratochvil ran for mayor of Racine in 1935. His designs over time evolved into the “seashell” models, and his round house plans were sold across the United States.

The chronicle of these Racine buildings promises an entertaining evening, and Colette will have copies of her books for sale ($10 to $15, depending on the edition).

North Pointe United Methodist Church has some new features to show as well, including a new portico over the main entrance on the north side. There is plenty of parking behind the church. We will serve light refreshments.

Our December 1 member meeting will return to the Racine Yacht Club for a potluck and will feature a presentation by Jessica Michna.
