The Sixth Street Theater and Over Our Head Players
Preservation Racine has done much research through the years of the building at 314 to 320 Sixth Street, known as the old YMCA Building among other sobriquets. One occupant at 318 Sixth Street is the Sixth
Street Theater, which hosts the Over Our Heads Players actors group.
Good fortune has favored us with an invitation to hold our June Membership Meeting in their newly revamped interior, which includes expanded seating with new risers, a state-of-the-art lighting grid and sound board, and other essentials and updates.
The remodeling occurred when Preservation members Val and Gary Zamencik initiated the move with a matching gift offer. The first event was held in September 2024. And now the Over Our Head Players, along with Managing Artistic Director Rich Smith, are opening their doors for a Preservation Racine tour of the new facilities. There will be a speaker who will give us a brief history of the acting group and its association with the Sixth Street Theater, located in the historic building, which has seen so much in Racine's past.
