Did Gilbert Knapp really build the first log cabin in Racine?

Monday, November 7, 2016
7:00 p. m.

Gateway Technical College
Great Lakes Room
1001 Main Street
Racine, Wisconsin 53403

Our presenter will be Joel Belaire, a retired researcher from Madison, Wisconsin,
who in investigating he and his wife’s family history (as a gift to their children), discovered
a thought-provoking story with a Racine connection. Joel has a fascinating story to tell
that involves a relative of his wife. There are many interesting twist and turns that has led
Joel to his conclusion that a cabin built by - (we don’t want to spoil the story) was the first
cabin built in what would become Racine. The story begins in Kentucky in 1785 and
involves romance, legal battles and name changes. Come and enjoy the tale and avoid
the annoying calls we will get he night before the election.

Please park in the lower parking lot. The entrance you will want is on the lower level,
near the north end of the building. See map.

Also, if you did not receive a tour booklet and want one, they will be available at the
meeting.
